OUR STORY
Taken over by Amanda and John in 2018, who also own and run the successful Kapadokya Turkish Restaurant, situated just opposite, The Mad Merchants is also family owned and run.
We believe that coffee and tea are more than just beverages, they are a way to start the day, a pick-me-up during the afternoon, and a moment of relaxation in your busy day, that's why we strive to provide the best quality coffee, tea and Mediterranean style breakfasts and light lunches in the heart of Plymouth's Barbican.
We have an extensive range of coffee styles from around the world, from a simple Espresso to a smooth Turkish coffee served in a traditional copper pot.
Our Team
Our team of experienced baristas and tea experts share a passion for all things coffee and tea. From brewing the perfect cup to creating a specialist coffee from our 'Coffees of the World' menu our team is dedicated to providing you with a memorable experience every time you visit The Mad Merchants.
Our chef, Blanka and front of house team are both friends and family and we take pleasure in inviting you into our friendly and welcoming coffee house to sample not just our amazing beverages but our fantastic selection of homemade fayre.
Our Locations
We are located on the cobbles of Plymouth's oldest street, New Street, down on The Barbican. Our quirky 16th century former Merchant's house is home to an original spiral staircase twisting around a ship's mast and a stunning walled garden at the rear. Our coffee bar and informal seating is locared on the ground floor and our cosy Merchant's Coffee Lounge is up the spirals
on the first floor.
Whether you're looking for a cozy spot to read a book or a lively place to catch up with friends, we've got you covered. We also offer Shisha in our stunning Turkish garden during the summer months.
